This week's Friday Favorites feature highlights the tasty and low-carb Thai Turkey Lettuce Wraps. These wraps include Asian-seasoned ground turkey in lettuce leaves with matchstick cucumbers, fresh herbs, and a mildly spicy sauce. Kara and I made some adjustments to the original recipe to simplify the process for a more convenient cooking experience.

Read on to discover the modifications we made to streamline this delicious lettuce wrap recipe with Thai flavors. And if you're interested, here's the original version that transformed the turkey into meatballs.

Ingredients:

(Scroll down for the printable recipe or click the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top for quick access.)

Simplified Steps:

  • We used jarred minced ginger and garlic for the sauce to save time on chopping. (Fresh ingredients can be used if preferred!)

  • We doubled the meat portion of the recipe to cook two pounds of turkey at once and slightly increased the sauce amount.

  • We opted for browning the seasoned turkey instead of making meatballs as in the original recipe.

  • We switched romaine for butter lettuce and basil for mint. Feel free to use your preferred lettuce and herbs.

Thai-Inspired Flavors:

While not an authentic Thai dish, these wraps include traditional Thai ingredients like fish sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce, along with fresh herbs and cucumbers. To keep the dish low-carb, we replaced sugar with a sweetener.

Meat Options:

Although ground turkey is used in this recipe, ground beef or chicken can be substituted. If using ground chicken, consider adding extra oil during cooking.

About Fish Sauce:

Fish sauce is a Southeast Asian condiment that adds umami flavor to dishes. Red Boat Fish Sauce is recommended for its gluten-free and flavorful qualities, but Three Crabs Fish Sauce is a good alternative.

Carb Content:

Each lettuce wrap contains only 4 net carbs, making them a delicious low-carb option!
